A working group dedicated to exploring issues of gender and sexuality in the South and Southeast Asian context

The working group in Gender and Queer Theory in South and Southeast Asia hopes to establish itself as an interdisciplinary forum for students interested in the intersections between contemporary queer and gender theories and South and Southeast Asian area studies. Encompassing a broad understanding of gender and sexuality, this group will investigate a wide range of critical texts and cultural practices.

African American Literature Working Group

This year's workshop meetings will discuss the present state and the new directions in African American literature and literary thought.

The African American Literature Working Group seeks to consider a more expansive approach to the African American literary tradition beyond its literary import and contributions.  We approach literature as a lens to analyze the development of the American social landscape, particularly by foregrounding the interrelationships among literary, historical, cultural and political components of American society.  Our aim is to reconsider the contributions of African American literature to American culture and
