Bio: 
I am a first-year graduate student in the Department of History studying the environmental history of East Africa during the early 20th century, particularly along the Swahili coast of Kenya and Tanzania.
Why You Joined the Lab: 
I believe that the lab will be particularly useful to my research and teaching throughout my time at UC-Berkeley.

Jeff Schauer

Bio: 
I'm from Shasta County, California, studied history and anthropology at UC Irvine, and am currently a graduate student in the department of history at Berkeley. I use a range of archives in Britain, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, the United States and Zambia to research the emergence of a 'politics of wildlife' in eastern and central Africa during the colonial era. At Berkeley I have GSId for African, European, environmental, and human rights history courses.
Why You Joined the Lab: 
To participate in the African studies MRG dissertation workshop.
