Colloquium in the Studies of Music
Our lunchtime meetings, hosted in the music department, offer a weekly forum for graduate students engaged with music-affiliated topics to present their research before an audience of peers and faculty. With our wide range of topics and approaches we aim to foster closer dialogue between musicology, ethnomusicology and sound studies at the graduate level. Hoping to dispell the myth that particular musical training is required to talk meaningfully about music in culture and society, we also welcome colleagues from other fields as discussants.

Urban History Working Group
The Berkeley Urban History Working Group brings together graduate students working on urban topics in various fields within history, as well as in other disciplines. With regular meetings to discuss major monographs in urban history, our group fosters connections and discussion between students working on diverse periods and geographies. Although we focus on how urban topics have been discussed within the discipline of history, we welcome participation from our colleagues in other disciplines who are interested in historical approaches to writing about urbanism.
