Kristina Kangas
Academic PositionGraduate Student
Bio:
Kristina Kangas has a range of work investigating how avian reproduction is timed and regulated. As an undergraduate she investigated synthesis of GnIH and its receptor at the level of the gonads. Her current work is elucidating a novel pathway involving a chemical synthesized only in darkness that is commonly associated with jet-lag and Seasonal Affective Disorder, melatonin. In the future, she hopes to investigate neuropeptides involved in the behavior and physiology of other avian life history stages, such as at the onset and termination of migration.
Why You Joined the Lab:
The people at Berkeley are very supportive of new and unique endeavors, and I hope to learn more about other institutions that share similar interests to start novel collaborations and contribute to existing ones!
