In March 2010 the Mukurtu project received a National Endowment for the Humanities Digital Start Up Grant to produce a beta-version of the Mukurtu software. Through this grant program, NEH "aims to encourage the development of innovative projects that promise to benefit the humanities." The NEH grant has allowed the Mukurtu project to begin it's third phase of development with production of a beta-version sceduled to launch in August 2011. Interim testing and demos of the software will be available through the project website.
