Throughout the first half of the twentieth century, numerous writers and artists from Federico García Lorca, Langston Hughes and Graham Greene to George Gershwin, Walker Evan and Paul Bowles, were fascinated with the cultural milieu of Havana, Cuba. This project is dedicated to an in-depth examination of the cultural landscape of pre-revolutionary Havana. Of particular interest is the influence and poetic uses of Afro-Cuban rhythms in representative writers and artists of the era.
